A few years back my company was on the brink of bankruptcy. The secured lenders and their attorneys met with me and my attorney. 12 of them. 2 of us. Big conference room. Fresh legal pads.
They tried to bully and browbeat me into liquidating the company. I would not agree. I told them I would pay them back. They got more intense and louder. I did not agree. This went on for hours.
One Chicago attorney (I wish I could remember his name) thought he had a solution. We went to a private conference room. He was obnoxious, got in my face, yelled even louder to intimidate me into agreeing to liquidate the company. So much so that he spit on me! I simply said, "No". The meeting ended. I proceeded with my plan to pay them back in full.
A few weeks later, the Chicago attorney called me. He said he would like to buy a piece of my art. He hoped there were no hard feelings. "Just business", he said. I said, "No!" I would not have him hang a piece of my art like some big game hunters trophy. I said, "It's personal".
Sometimes I think of him when I light the fuse!
