Opening night photos at Gallery 1308. What a blast!Read More
Pounds of gunpowder, yards of fuse, and piles of ash - and the resulting fire and explosions - have led to this!
The Wisconsin Union Art Directorate will present the explosion art of The American Gunpowder Artist, Stick Vega, at Gallery 1308 (Union South - Madison, WI). The show will include gunpowder paintings, drawings and fine art prints.
WUD art will host an opening reception Friday, June 13th from 6-8pm with food and refreshments. Vega will show about fifteen artworks which represent Vega's "Pop" Expressionism including some of his figurative and abstract work. A facebook link to the event can be found here.
"Gallery 1308 is a great space, run by great people, I am sure this will be a blast!", said Stick Vega.
The show will continue through July 29th.
Here are some updates from WUD:
The American Gunpowder Artist, Stick Vega, uses high speed fuse and gunpowder to produce his "pop expressionism" figurative and abstract paintings. In a blast, his recent explosion work depicts colorful animals, flowers, and explosive shapes. Stick's mission is, "the more gunpowder I use the less there is for killing people."
Extraordinary Music will by Nick Nice will be in the Sett (down the hall from the Gallery from 5 to 7PM.
BBQ dinner and fish fry will and lots of cold beer will be on tap, too!

The University of Wisconsin Union Directorate Art Committee selected my work for a 6 week solo show starting in June of 2014. Here is the note from Mara Champagne, Associate Director:
"Congratulations! The Wisconsin Union Directorate Art Committee has selected your artwork to be shown in Gallery 1308 from Friday, June 13, 2014 to Tuesday, July 29, 2014. "
My plan is to present some large abstract and figurative explosion paintings, and a number of fine art prints. Of course some images of the process and explosions will be included. I have asked for approval for an onsite, outdoors, explosion event as part of the opening (exact date and time to be determined).
I appreciate and am excited for the opportunity to have a blast at Gallery 1308!
And yes, there is lots of good beer there!
